After testing the waters yesterday, I decided to kick off the Wiki-to-PDF project.
From the project page over on our GMing Wiki:
“The Wiki-to-PDF project (WTP for short) is a collaborative writing project aimed at publishing free, professional-quality PDFs for the GMing community.
We’re using the GMing Wiki as a content management system — a way to handle this collaboration seamlessly and with a minimum of fuss. That leaves more time to focus on the fun stuff: sharing your tips, tricks and knowledge with fellow GMs.”
Between today and February 14th, we’ll be tackling two topics: Finding Players and Problem Players.
If you’re interested in collaborating with fellow GMs, and in having your work published in these two Treasure Tables PDFs, head on over to the project page for details!
One thing I think that needs to be kept in mind with this, is what format are we aiming for? How do we want these entries to look since they will be in a final published format eventually.
Also grammar concerns, I know my grammar isn’t great unless I put a strict watch on it. Maybe a volunteer or two who have decent grammar could step up and look over the pages periodically.
I’d definitely like to see this project have a good ending to it. I’ve never seen a wiki used in this fashion before, but it has great potential to make some real community oriented writing get some notice.
Good questions, John!
Format: For the first time out, I’m planning to use the layout template that I’ve used for the other TT PDFs I’ve done. That said, what gets contributed could change how the finished products look. I’d say don’t worry too much about formatting the actual wiki pages, as the end result may look different.
Grammar: I suspect there are at least a couple interested folks out there who will want to focus on grammer, spelling and other editing concerns while the project is going on. Whether I’m right or wrong about that, though, I’m going to be doing a final editing pass with these same concerns in mind.
OK, I threw some stuff out there… Please fold, spindle, and mutilate as desired…
