Design blog attacks of opportunity [1] recently covered an interesting idea: Campaign Stakes [2]. Setting stakes — deciding what’s on the line, in other words — is common to many indie RPGs, and it’s a concept that’s very easy to drift to other games. I’ve never seen it applied on the macro-level before, and it’s definitely food for thought.

Under the Bed, by Joshua Newman, does this quite well, actually. His next game, Shock: also has a form of story stakes.

The concept behind UtB never grabbed me, but it might be worth checking out just for this aspect of it — thanks for the link, Ben.
