Baby Steps Approach to Campaign Design

Issue #308 of the Roleplaying Tips e-zine [1] features an article about taking baby steps when you design a new campaign. In a nutshell, you pick an idea, ask yourself some questions about it, answer them and then move on to the next idea.

It lines up nicely with Worldbuilding Questions [2] and Start Small [3], too.

This is how I am approaching my Steampunk campaign. After only two games, it is already changed course wildly from what I originally envisioned, all due to the efforts and interests of my Players.

I love it!

Next game will be interesting as I will be giving them “what they’ve asked for” (either directly or through character actions). I look forward to seeing if they truly want what they requested. 😉

Nice! It’s always gratifying when that happens.

If you’re interested, this’d be a fun writeup for our Open RPG forum. 🙂
